JEDDAH - The General Prosecution and Investigation Board has ordered alleged child victims of a serial rapist and their families to take DNA tests, Al-Madinah newspaper reported on Monday. A 43-year-old schoolteacher has been arrested in connection with the attacks. The investigators are hoping to match samples taken from the suspect. Sources said the families were asked to go to the criminal department for the tests. The suspect's brother said investigations revealed information that could acquit the suspect of the charges against him. He said investigators have discovered that the suspect was in Egypt when two of the attacks took place. The findings were proven using evidence from his passport. The brother said, "We are now in the process of finalizing the procedures to hire a lawyer. The lawyer examined the evidence against my brother and we are certain that he will be acquitted of all charges against him." He expressed outrage at the decision preventing the suspect’s family members from visiting him in jail. He said prison officials at Briman jail refused to allow the family members to see the suspect without prior permission from the General Prosecution and Investigation Board. However, the board told the family that any such decision fell under the jail officials’ jurisdiction. Earlier it was reported that the prosecution will not use 197 pieces of evidence against the suspect as they were not convincing. Only three pieces of evidence will be presented in court against the suspect. Full Story>>
